Ariel's Feature in ElevateHer Newsletter

Greetings!

It is an honor to contribute to the ElevateHer Newsletter. My name is Ariel Loveland, and I am a Southeastern Idaho native. I love this area! It has been home to generations of my family. The fresh air, good people, and thriving music community have my heart!

When I pulled a bow across a violin string at age ten, my life changed forever. Four years later, I was in the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony, and two years after that, at age sixteen, I was a member of the Idaho Falls Symphony. I have loved playing on stage with beloved friends in the symphony for the past twenty years.

In that time, I have received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Brigham Young University–Idaho and a Master’s degree in Music Education from Southern Utah University. I have had the opportunity to perform worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and conductor. My violin playing has been featured in many recordings, and my own professional album has been downloaded worldwide.

I have had the honor of being the Principal Second Violin of the Idaho Falls Symphony for the past seven years. During that time, I have also been a guest performer at BYU–Idaho and performed in countless string quartet performances, both as a violinist and violist. I have performed with multiple symphonies in Montana and had the unique experience of playing in a Bluegrass Band as well. It is a joy to share the stage in a variety of art forms!

Recently, I was invited to attend a Conducting Conference at the Avaloch Music Institute in Concord, Massachusetts, with some of the very best musicians in the world. It was humbling and enriching; I simply love studying music! It is a way of life for me. It fills my cup as I share with others.

I have had the honor of being a clinician and adjudicator across Idaho and sincerely enjoy working with young people. I loved starting an orchestra program in Shelley, Idaho, where my wonderful parents reside. I also had the honor of being an Assistant Director for the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony for two years.

For the past five years, I have been the Madison Middle School and Junior High Orchestra Director. During that time, the program numbers have tripled, and my award-winning students were recently invited to perform at Carnegie Hall! It was a stunning experience.

I believe a music educator can be an energetic light by sharing love, brilliance, and artistry so humankind is edified and elevated as a whole. As Willie Nelson beautifully stated:

“We are the same. There is no difference anywhere in the world. People are people. They laugh, cry, feel, and love, and music seems to be the common denomination that brings us all together. Music cuts through all boundaries and goes right to the soul.”

I took a break from a thriving fifteen-year violin studio, with accomplished private students, to raise my children. My sweetest accomplishment is my family. I am grateful for my wonderful husband, a Wyoming native, who is an administrator at Madison Memorial Hospital. Our three beloved children, James, Lucy, and Drake, are the best part of my life.

To me, the experience of Motherhood, with all its ups and downs, is the best part of being a woman. I feel deeply grateful to my Idaho Falls Symphony family as well and look forward to many more years of collaboration!

With sincere love and gratitude,
Ariel Loveland
